How Do Communities on the Eastport Peninsula Work Together to Manage Their Coastal Resources?
Project Description
Objective:
To bring together stakeholders to discuss common issues of coastal zone management.
Background:
Another opportunity for discussion and debate came to Eastport when the Harris Centre's Integrated Coastal Zone Management Workshop in the Fall of 2007 brought together Memorial geographers, fishery specialists and ecological economists with the community. This multi-disciplinary approach was geared toward managing for sustainability amid competing interests. ICZM includes more than fisheries, although fisheries normally play a strong role. It also refers to other coastal activities and development, such as tourism, agriculture and industries that take place on land and sea.
Roles for Memorial University:
The Harris Centre organized the session in partnership with the Town of Eastport.
