Explore Craft Opportunities Using Memorial Expertise in Material Culture
Project Description
Objective:
To explore craft opportunities for the Great Northern Peninsula and connect crafters in the region with each other and various resources
Background:
There are many crafters throughout the Great Northern Peninsula who produce a variety of different craft products. While these are quality products, crafters would like a way to connect with each other, discuss their work, and access different markets throughout the Peninsula. Geography, weather and other barriers makes it difficult to connect and further develop the area's craft potential. Using material culture expertise would help link crafters with each other via a workshop or other event, and give them tools to better explore crafting opportunities
Roles for Memorial University:
Link research and knowledge on material culture, crafting and marketing with craft producers on the Great Northern Peninsula. Help the region better develop and market their products.
