Development of Walking Trails in Communities on the Southern Shore (Irish Loop)

Project Description
Objective:

To research and develop several walking trails and related activities in the region

Background:

The Irish Loop region on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland and Labrador has large potential for using existing natural spaces for activities such as nature walks, hiking, and other outdoor activities. The region also has a rich history of music, storytelling, disasters and folklore which could be incorporated into interpretive panels and activities along the trails. The development of walking trails throughout the region would be beneficial to local community members as well as visitors to the region. Work has not yet been started for this potential project. There is a role for research and development of a trail system, as well as development of interpretative panels, tours and other activities for the trails and communities involved.

Roles for Memorial University:

Research and develop a system of walking trails on the Southern Shore in various communities. Work could also be done for the development of interpretative panels, walking tours/programs, or other activities to be carried out on the trails.
