A Study of the True Barriers to Health Care in Labrador
Project Description
Objective:
To study the reasons people in Labrador are not accessing quality health care in their communities.
Background:
This potential project concerns the lack of access to quality health care in Labrador. Some issues related to this larger problem are the high cost of travel for treatment, regional disparities in services, and nurse usage. Special health areas of concern in this region include seniors' health, FASD and diabetes.
Providers and governments need a better understanding of the barriers those in the region face when trying to access health care. A study is needed to find out why people are not accessing quality health care in their home communities, and to find out how to solve these problems.
Roles for Memorial University:
Research the barriers to health care in Labrador and provide findings which could help solve current problems in the health care system.
