A Study of the Non-Participation in Post-Secondary Programs by Zone 20 Youth/Residents

Project Description
Objective:

To study the reasons for non-participation in post-secondary schooling by residents of Zone 20 (Southern Shore)

Background:

It was determined at the Harris Centre Regional Workshop in Bauline East, November 2007, that there needed to be more understanding of the reasons why so few residents of the region attended post-secondary facilities. Better understanding the factors which prevent post-secondary education attendance in the region may help in the development of tools which will encourage further education past the secondary level. Research should be done to determine any factors, whether wide-spread or unique to the region, which deter post-secondary involvement within Regional Economic Zone 20.

Roles for Memorial University:

Research factors which contribute to the those in the region not attending post-secondary institutions and provide results to local stakeholders for further consideration.
