HRM (Human Resource Management) Best Practices Case Studies

Project Description
Objective:

To prepare best practices case studies on Manufacturing and Value-Added Businesses engaged in the Steps for Success Pilot Project

Background:

In March 2007, the Random North Development Association (RNDA) and NL Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) pulled their resources together and received funding from Human Resources Social Development Canada through the Workplace Skills Initiative (WSI) that commenced a 3-year pilot project (March 2007-March 2010). The Pilot would enhance human resource management within approx. 25 small/medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Manufacturing/Value-Added Sector. As well, a Provincial HR Strategy for the Manufacturing/Value-Added Sector would be developed and implemented.

Roles for Memorial University:

An activity of the Manufacturing/Value-Added Provincial HR Team is to share best practices from the the 3-year Pilot Project. A potential role for MUN: to assist with preparing Case Studies on some of our Steps for Success Business Partners. A Working Group from the Provincial HR Team will develop the form criteria for the Case Studies.

Project Status:

A Provincial HR Strategy for the Manufacturing/Value-Added Sector has been developed and the Provincial HR Team has commenced implementing activities from 4 of the main objectives. Preparing Best Practices Case Studies is one of these activities. A Working Group from the Provincial HR Team will develop the criteria form for the Case Studies. A preliminary meeting was also held with Gary Gorman and the Gardiner Centre in December 2008.
