Island Landscapes

Lead Researcher and Department
Bojan Furst, Harris Centre and MA Student, Department of Geography, Memorial University

Summary
As the small island communities around the world continue to be affected by resource management decisions made on regional, national and global levels, the people living on islands find themselves not only without their traditional livelihoods, but also untethered from their previous sense of identity. This series of nine black and white silver gelatin photographic prints of varying sizes (11x14 to 16x16) explores the elements of island landscapes in Newfoundland and Croatia as they change from largely productive landscapes (fisheries, agriculture) to tourist attraction.
